You do it to yourself, you do.

I've been missing a lot of karate classes this summer.  Last week I had three hockey games, and missed both nights at the dojo.  This week, no hockey.  It really shouldn't be so rare to get to two classes in a row.

The thought has been crossing my mind to get myself ready to test for sandan in the fall, but I just don't know how this intermittent schedule will allow that.  But it seems like I do that with a lot of things: the VWs are a great example -- once I actually get off my rear, things tend to have more chance of getting done.

The test for 3rd degree black belt is going to take a lot of work.  It's physically challenging, but there is a lot of mental exercise, preparation, and revision too.  And if I'm struggling just to make it to class, how will I find the extra time & energy this is going to demand?

Tonight, I'll go to the dojo.  That's a start.

can't hardly wait

This morning, I went outside to take another stab at getting that fanbelt to fit right.  It's still too tight, but I'm leaving that for later assessment.

Within a few minutes of me opening the garage door, Hannah was out there with me, asking "what can I help with?"  So we cleared some old junk out of it, I vacuumed, then she spent about an hour cleaning the dash, the seats, and the glass.  In the rain.

Giant smile on her face the entire time.

It's been a long time running. Or not running, rather.

Today, Hannah & I worked on the beetle.

May not seem like a big deal, but the vw -- two of them, for that matter -- has sat in my driveway for over ten years.  A decade.  No kidding.  It has a zero-mile engine in it, which I bought in 2001.  Deb & I hung it up shortly thereafter, then....then....nothing.

A week ago, I got off my butt, went outside, and assessed the situation.  What exactly will it take to get this thing on the road?  As it turns out, not much.  Needs tires, brakes need work, have to replace an axle, and had to install the alternator pulley & belt.

That's the part Hannah & I did tonight, the alternator pulley & belt.  Though the belt is giving me trouble.  I looked for advice on the internet, and decided not to do this:

third time around

I don't have a lot to say, but I don't necessarily think facebook is the place for it when I do.  Let's give this a shot again.
